Carlton Burton “Pete” Nethercutt, age 84, passed away peacefully November 30, 2021 at his home in Roanoke Rapids, NC, surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born February 10, 1937 to the late Willard Carlton and Doris Draper Nethercutt. 

He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Becky Nethercutt, and Andrew and Mary Draper and an uncle, A.B. Draper, Jr., several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pete graduated from Weldon High School where he was active in Sports. 

After graduating in 1955 he attended Louisburg Jr. College. 

After his marriage to his school classmate, Margie Garner, he and his wife moved to Washington, DC where he worked for the FBI as a fingerprint clerk until they decided to start a family and then returned to the Roanoke Rapids area. 

In Roanoke Rapids, he acquired a position with J. P. Stevens as a computer technician for ten years. He then went to work as an office manager with Eastern Service Corp. in Enfield until the city of Roanoke Rapids began a computer system at which time he was hired as Information Technology Manager and remained there for 21 years, retiring in 2002.

Pete was a member of Weldon United Methodist Church until their marriage in 1957 at which time he transferred his membership to Smith United Methodist Church. 

Pete served as chair person on various committees namely Administrative Board, Trustees, PPR and was active in the Men’s club. He, along with his wife, prepared the church newsletter for over 20 years.

Pete was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. 

He loved sports, hunting, fishing, playing golf and enjoyed yard work. He was a huge fan of western movies, especially those with John Wayne. It was well known when someone mentioned a line from one of Wayne’s movies, Pete was always ready to “name that movie.”

Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Margie Garner Nethercutt, two sons, Gary Nethercutt and his wife, Polly of Henrico, NC, Barry Nethercutt and his wife, Dana of Nashville, NC; grandchildren, MacGyver Nethercutt, Jackson Nethercutt and Carolyn Nethercutt; brothers-in-law Wilbur Garner and Jimmy Garner and his wife, Peggy of Roanoke Rapids and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mario Fiorilli and his staff for the care they gave Pete for many years as well as the staff at Kindred at home, and Community Home Health and Hospice.

Visitation will be at Smith United Methodist Church on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 12:30-1:30 pm. Graveside Services will follow at 2:00 pm at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Tom Schwartz and Rev. Stan Lewis officiating.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Askew Funeral and Cremation services in Roanoke Rapids.
