Linda Wrenn Smith, 78, of Roanoke Rapids, passed peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Greenville County, Virginia, to the late Percy M. and Ida Allen Wrenn. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Judy Wrenn Daughtrey; grandson, Ashley Jody Smith; and her “Heart Dog,” Pearl.

Linda retired from The Daily Herald as their business manager after 47 years of service. She developed close and lasting friendships with many of her Daily Herald “work family.”

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ashley Lee Smith; her daughters, Penny Wrenn Powell (Daphne) of Emporia, Virginia, and Shay Smith (Shawn) of Roanoke Rapids; her son, Dale Smith (Jan) of Salisbury; sister, Nancy Wrenn Powell of Brink, Virginia; granddaughter, Elizabeth Leigh Taylor (Andy); four great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Landyn and Alleigh Taylor, and Gavin Smith; her favorite sister-in-law, Ann Smith Edwards; daughter-in-law, Kim Dickens; a granddaughter-in-law, Amy Tharrington; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends; a devoted caregiver, Betty Frazier; and her beloved Dog, Elvis.

The family would like to thank her doctors at Duke Cancer Center and Leavelle Tillar and the Community Hospice Team for their exceptional care.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, with the Rev. Roy Porter officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the home.
