Otis Fleetwood Wheeler, 84, died Tuesday, February 05, 2019, at Life Care Hospitals of North Carolina in Rocky Mount, NC.

Otis was born in Northampton County, November 9, 1934, son to the late Linwood and Annie Hasty Wheeler.

He retired in the early 1990’s as Chief Deputy of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

In his retirement years, Otis was the security guard at Becker Village Mall until his illness.

He also loved tending to his chickens and goats.  

In addition to his parents, Otis was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Charlotte Smith Wheeler and his son, William “Bill” Otis Wheeler.

Surviving are his daughters, Nettie W. Edwards of Roanoke Rapids and Angie W. Blanton and husband, Jeff, of Woodland, NC; five grandchildren, Chad Wheeler and wife, Karren of Seaboard, Trevor and Colby Edwards of Roanoke Rapids, Hunter and Gabe Wheeler; two great grandchildren, Sarah Kate and Karson Ricks. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.  

The family will receive friends Friday, February 8, 2019, at Askew Funeral Service- Jackson Chapel, Jackson, NC from 6-8 pm. Rev. Jim Cox will conduct funeral services at Jackson Baptist Church Saturday, February 9, 2019, at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Jackson Cemetery.
