Patricia Baker Long, 68, died Sunday, January 7, 2024, with family around at her home in Roanoke Rapids.

Patricia was born in Washington, D.C. on December 23, 1955. 

After growing up in various parts of Maryland and Virginia, she found herself in Roanoke Rapids. 

In North Carolina she found a second act after meeting Sidney Earl Long, with whom she fell in love and helped build the home on Old Halifax Road. 

There she forged a happy life, which included traveling and camping, and finished raising her three children, later entertaining her six grandchildren. 

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved birthdays, Halloween, and Christmas, and she always strived to make these occasions special. 

Patricia also loved angels, and had a vast collection of movies in a variety of genres.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Earl Long, and her mother, Margaret Gobble. Left to cherish her memory are her children, son Herbert Dunlow (Heather) of Amelia, Virginia; and daughters Katherine Bell (Roger) and Lisa Garris (James) of Roanoke Rapids; brothers Richard Gabel and Russell Baker and sisters Sandra Lynch and Kerry Gabel; grandchildren Ian Dunlow, Brandon Raby, Owen Dunlow, Ryan Garris, Riley Garris and Haley Bell, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2024 at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services, 731 Roanoke Avenue in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements. 

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2024 at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services, with Rev. Randy Martin officiating, followed by interment at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
