Haywood “Hawk” Hawkins, 79, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, peacefully passed away surrounded by family at Bryant T. Aldridge Rehabilitation Center on Monday May 18, 2026.
Haywood was born on October 11, 1946, in Halifax. He was preceded in death by his mother Mattie Hawkins.
He is survived by his long time companion Carlyn Swett, son Joshua Williams (Christy), daughter Karen Winbon Hauser (John), brother Gene A. Hawkins Sr. (Becky), sisters Jim James Taylor, Katie Hawkins Newton, Nancy Hawkins Hunnicutt, grandchildren Carly Jo Williams, Victoria Hauser, Lauren Hauser, great grandchildren Wilder, Merritt, nephews Jimmy Taylor, Ed Taylor, nieces Tammy Parrish, Jennifer Newton, Susan Nquwen, Amy Snodgrass friends Winfield Powell, Ricky Shell, Michael Vincent (many more friends) and his “fur baby” Mary Jane.

Hawk was a loving friend, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and working in his yard. Hawk enjoyed coffee with his family and friends at the shop, during these meetings he would give advice and love.
The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday May 26, 2026, from 10:00am to 11:00am at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service, service will follow at 11:00am in Hockaday Chapel with Pastor Matt Rieder presiding. Interment will follow at Crestview cemetery.
The family has requested that you wear your Harley gear and if you like, ride one to the service. In lieu of flowers you can donate in Hawk’s honor to the First Evangelical Methodist Church in Gaston, the mailing address is PO Box 578 Gaston, NC 27832.
