Joe Nathan Pepper, 96, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019 at his home.

Joe was born May 25, 1922, in Halifax County to the late Bernard William Pepper and Maggie Shaw Pepper.

He was also preceded in death by his wives, Margaret Pepper and Marjorie Pepper; his daughter, Gayle P. Robinson; his sisters, Clarice Shaw, Lillie Andleton and Dorothy Green; his brother, Reginald Pepper; his sons-in-law, Braxton Warren and Mike Robinson; his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Pepper.

Joe was a lifelong member of New Hope United Methodist Church. He was Superintendent of Sunday School, served on the church board and held many positions at the church. Joe served his country in the Air Force during World War II. He retired from J. P. Stevens.

Joe is survived by his children, Joe Wayne Pepper, Jerry Pepper and his wife Shirley, Linda P. Warren; his brother, Francis Pepper all of Roanoke Rapids; his grandchildren, Tammy G. Evans, C. J. Griffin, Jay Pepper, Alan Daniels, Joey Honeycutt and Bryan Honeycutt; eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 20, 2019 at New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Sue Owens and Rev. C.J. Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home.
