Thomas James Mason, 87, of Roanoke Rapids died Saturday, July 4, 2020 at WakeMed in Raleigh.

Thomas was born December 12, 1932 in Selma, NC (Johnston County), the son of Jasper R. and Goldie Ellen Johnson Mason.  

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Johnson and Joyce Thompson.

He was a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School and retired after 38 years from International Paper.  

Thomas was a member of Roanoke Rapids Church of God.  He enjoyed saltwater fishing, motorcycle trips and singing.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Stainback Mason; sons, Thomas Bryan Mason (Karen)  and John Kevin Mason; daughter, Pamela Mason Dennison (Larry); 11 grandchildren, Ashley, Golden, Jessie and Brewster Dennison (Stacie), Amanda, Kendall and Lee Mason (Andrea), Alex and Caleb Mason, Caitlin Crandall (Conner), and Ashley Reber; 2 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bobby Mason (Sarah); two sisters, Norma Edwards (Ozzie) and Nelda Pope (Donald); a number of nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Tasha Hawkins. 

Due to COVID-19 concerns, no formal visitation will be held, but friends may pay their respects at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service from 2:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday from the graveside at Cedarwood Cemetery.  Rev. Marvin Wiggins and Rev. Timothy Dean will preside.

The family requests no flowers, however, cards mailed to them will be appreciated.
