Elsie Walker Conwell, 79, died August 30, 2020 in Signature Healthcare.

Elsie was born in Randolph County, NC on May 27, 1941, the daughter of Cleveland and Margie Fender Charles.  

Her parents; first husband, Robert Earl Walker; aunt & uncle that raised her, Bessie and Bob Cox; daughters, Elsie Diane Jackson and Teresa Jean Walker Hargrave; grandchildren, David Hargrave and Stephanie Lynn Jackson; great-granddaughter, Addison Hargrave; sisters, Laura Fender Casey, Shirley Charles Woods; aunt, Blanche Fuller; and uncle, Artis Charles, all preceded her in death. 

Elsie was a 1959 graduate of William R Davie High School. She worked as an inspector for JP Stevens, Whitaker’s Sewing Mill and Roanoke Enfield Apparel during her career.  She also worked as a home health nurses aide.

She was a member of First Christian Church.  A devoted Christian, she loved the Lord and believed in Christ Jesus.  Elise enjoyed gardening and working in the yard.

Survivors include her husband, William Conwell; Son, William Earl “Billy” Walker (Melinda); daughters, Hope Walker and Donna Couch; brothers, Jimmy and Johnny Charles; sister, Joyce Lanier; brother-in-law, Wayne Taylor; grandchildren, Beth Walker, Robert Hargrave (Brittany) and Daniel Madron (Ryan King); and great-grandchildren, Nathan Colbert, Damian McLaughin, Autumn and Abbie Hargrave; as well as a number of friends through church and work.

The funeral service for Mrs. Elsie Conwell will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 2, 2020, from the graveside at Cedarwood Cemetery, with Pastor Christ Howerton presiding.  Friends may visit with the family following the service, or at other times at the residence of Billy Walker.

Due to CDC recommendations for COVID-19, social distancing is encouraged.
