Betty Lynn McDaniel Bobbitt, 89, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away Monday evening, September 21, 2020, at Sunrise of Hermosa Beach in Hermosa Beach, CA.  

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Irwin McDaniel (July 7, 1970) and her second husband, Benjamin Allen Bobbitt, Sr (April 6, 1996). 

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Mary Etta and Barney Lincoln Lynn and her two brothers,  Euvee E. and Lewis Alexander Lynn.  

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Lynn Will (husband David) of Redondo Beach, CA and their children, Samantha Lynn, Alexandra Grace and Madison Caroline.  

She is also survived by her son, James Godwin McDaniel (wife Shannon) of Portland, Or and their children, Annika, Dayna Marie, Ginger Jean, and Katelynn Dawn.  

Other survivors include stepsons Steve Bobbitt (daughter Haley), David Bobbitt (daughter Kelsey) and Ben Bobbitt (son Taylor and daughter Elizabeth), nieces and nephews and other relatives.  Mrs. Bobbitt also had seven great-grandchildren.

Betty Bobbitt was born in Coffee, GA in Bacon County, where she worked briefly for Atlantic Coast Line, but spent most of her life in North Carolina after moving to Roanoke Rapids with her first husband, James.  

She worked for the family business, McDaniel Trucking Company.  

Betty and her second husband, Allen, moved to Littleton where they lived on Lake Gaston.  Betty and Allen both loved the lake, enjoyed fishing and spending time with friends and family.  Over the years, Betty enjoyed playing canasta and bowling with friends.  

She was a wonderful cook, loved animals, enjoyed shopping and loved traveling around the world.  

She was a strong willed and independent woman with a witty sense of humor.  

Betty was a long time and faithful member of Rosemary Baptist Church and the Ernelle Brooks Circle.  

Betty moved to California in 2016 to be closer to family where she was a beloved mother and grandmother (known as Grandy to her CA grandkids) and a well loved and active resident of the Sunrise of Hermosa Beach Senior Living Community where they loved listening to her Southern accent.  

Betty enjoyed decorating for holidays and especially loved Christmas and Christmas trees.  Betty lit up when spending time with friends and family, especially telling stories to and about her grandchildren.  

She will be greatly missed!

A service honoring and celebrating Betty Bobbitt’s life is planned for Thursday, October 1, at 2 p.m. in Rosemary Baptist Church, followed by a burial in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.  Arrangements are under the care of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.
