Betty Jean Tart Conner, 69, was a loving wife, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.

She passed away Friday, October 30, 2020, at 9:00 pm in her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Halifax County, NC, June 9, 1951, daughter to the late Maryland Brooks and Mavis Scott Tart. 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Conner was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Gums and her granddaughter, Tiffany Faison. 

Surviving are her husband, Gene Russell Conner; daughters, Cheryl Clary and Sharon Durance Jenkins; grandchildren, Buddy James Poythress, III, Ashleigh Ashburn, Bryan Ashburn, Lauren Ashburn, Shane Henderson, Robert Henderson, Sherry Hux Bankert, Timothy Hux, Jr., Charles Hux, Scotty Livesay, Katlyn Gums Wright, Michael Gums, Morgan Gums; siblings, Diane Tart Francis, Mary Tart Fain, Donald Tart, Sr., and Gerald Tart. Also, surviving are 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Services Tuesday, November 3, 2020, from 6:00- 8:30 pm. Rev. Rex Evans will conduct funeral services in the chapel at Hockaday’s Wednesday, November 4, 2020, beginning at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. 

The family has requested donations be made in honor of Betty Jean Tart Conner to Ronald McDonald House, 529 Moye Blvd., Greenville, NC 27834, and/or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Due to CDC- Covid 19 restrictions, we ask to adhere to social distancing when at the visitation and graveside.
