John Edgar Johnston, 82, died Friday night in his Roanoke Rapids home.
A native of Halifax County, he was born May 2, 1938, the son of James Russell and Nellie Belle Reese Johnston.
John was a very health conscious man that enjoyed walking and working out almost daily.
He was an avid hunter, and enjoyed drinking a cold Pepsi. One of his most favorite things was spending time with his family, especially the grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren.
He attended Valley Community Church.
John retired from Patch Rubber Co; and prior to that, worked in textiles until the mills closed.
Survivors include his wife, Pattie Mae Green Johnston; his children and their spouses – sons, Bruce Collier, James Edgar Johnston, Johnny Johnston; step-son, Donald Ray Fajna; daughters, Jessica Collier, Patricia Nowell, Darlene Johnson, Maire Johnston; step-daughter, Wanda Melissa Fajna; numerous siblings; and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
The service to celebrate the life of Mr. John Edgar Johnston will be held at 12 noon on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Valley Community Church, with Pastor David Schmaltz presiding. Those attending are asked to follow masking and social distancing protocols.
Flowers will be accepted, and memorials may also be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
