Herman Hillard Wood, Jr., 78, died Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in his Roanoke Rapids home.

Mr. Wood was born November 16, 1942 in Halifax County, the son of Herman H. Wood, Sr. and Claudia Newsome Wood.  

His parents and a brother, Raymond Wood, preceded him in death.

He retired from CSX Railway after 36 years of service.  He enjoyed hunting, farming, and selling his produce from Windy Acres Farm.

Survivors include his wife, Terrie Briley Wood; his children, Ken Wood (Chris), Karen Kinyon (Chris), Lisa Nowell (Bill), James Joseph Whitehurst, Jr. (Rachel), Jeffrey Whitehurst (Courtney); grandchildren, Christopher Kinyon, Zachary Horvath (fiancee Leanne Davis), Tyler Wood, Megan Nowell, Mackenzie Wood, Lindsay and Ella Whitehurst, Jeff and Griffin Whitehurst, Ashley Bennett and Chris Nowell, Timothy Godsey and Stephanie St. Clair; great-grandchildren, Mason Davis, Avary Horvath; and siblings, Hazel Wells, Edna Council, Claudia Neal, Addie Simone and Ronnie Wood; and longtime good friends Mike and Duke Pittman.

Pastor Randy Martin will conduct the funeral service at 11:00 am, Friday, January 15, 2021, from the graveside at Wood Family Cemetery on HH Wood Farm Road in Roanoke Rapids.  The family will greet friends following the service.
