Alton Eugene Powell, 75, died at his home Monday, May 31, 2021.

Mr. Powell was born in Halifax County, NC, July 15, 1945, son to the late Albert Eugene and Fannie Mae Hale Powell. 

He was a member of Victory Baptist Church where he was the “official greeter.” 

He loved the Lord and his church and loved sharing the gospel with anyone. 

When Mr. Powell was not at church, he loved to work outside, especially, mowing the grass and tending to his garden. He also loved to spend time helping others outdoors. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his brother, Linwood Wayne Powell.    

Surviving is his wife, Judith Hawkins Powell, of the home; daughters, Jennifer Powell Limer and Kimberly Powell Milan, both of Roanoke Rapids; brothers, William “Freddie” Powell and long-time companion, Barbara, of Roanoke Rapids and James Melvin Powell and wife, Mary, of California; sister, Lois Rowell and husband, Jimmie; sister-in-law, Louise Powell, all of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Jeremy Limer, Brittany and Amber Milan. Also surviving are many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Wednesday, June 2, 2021, from 6-8pm and all other times at the home. Pastor Dan Bybee will conduct a graveside service Thursday, June 3, 2021, at 11:00 am in Hawkins Chapel UMC Cemetery. 

Flowers are accepted and the family has suggested memorial contributions be made in honor of Alton E. Powell to: Victory Baptist Church, 2360 Bolling Rd., Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
