Gary “Baby” Stephen Hooker, Jr. 47, of Gaston passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at home.

Gary was born November 18, 1973 in Pasquotank County, NC to Debbie Lee Barefoot.

6921hfshooker

He was a dedicated son, brother, husband, father, cousin, uncle and friend that always gave above and beyond the calling.

Family was always at the top of his list and whether it was on the ball field, at home or on vacation he always made memories that will last forever.

Gary married the love of his life, Windy Lee, and they have been with each other for more than 20 years and married for 11.

They have embraced life together, even when faced with challenges and have always been each other’s “A1 from Day1.”

Most of the time you could find Gary spending time with his family on the ball field.

The Reapers #31 was ready to play first base or pitch and gave his all each game with his family cheering for him in the background.

Family isn’t always what you are born into, sometimes it is who you surround yourself with and Gary was just that.

With his outgoing personality, he welcomed you into his family and was always there to stand up for you or lend a helping hand. Even at work Gary was surrounded by family and friends.

Gary remained in good spirits and continued to live life to the fullest when faced with challenges knowing that the love of his family and God would help him through the toughest of times.

His legacy will live on forever in our hearts and he will be greatly missed.

Gary is survived by his wife, Windy Hooker; his children, Jasmine Tanner of Pennsylvania, Megan Yandle and Austin Hooker both of Gaston; his brother, Lonnie Vanostrand of Elizabeth City; his sister, Jackie Thompson and her husband Ryan of Arkansas.

A visitation will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home.
