Maude Davis Shaw, 98, of Roanoke Rapids died Wednesday evening, December 29, 2021 in the home of her grandson after a period of declining health.

She was born December 27, 1923 in Louisiana, the daughter of Charlie Cagle Davis, Sr. and Velma Janie Cooper Davis.  

Maude was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Calvin Shaw; a brother and sister; and 2 daughters, Maxine Palmer and Bobbie Jean McMullen.

Maude spent her life taking care of her family, going to church, working in her garden, listening to country music, hand making quilts, getting her hair done weekly and sitting in her easy chair with her little dog on her lap and her family around her. She began a career with Be Lo Grocery in 1955, when the grocery chain was founded.

Maude is survived by her son, Guy Shaw, Sr. (Carol) of Roanoke Rapids; a brother, Wilbur Davis of Stantonsburg; grandchildren, Sherrie Shaw, Guy Shaw, Jr., Jason Shaw, Rebekah Countryman; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Justin, Damian, Jarod and Katelin; great-great grandchildren, Jackson and Hazel, and another on the way.

The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Maude Davis Shaw will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 1, 2022 in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service, with her great-grandson Justin Wilson presiding.
