Mrs. Alice Marie Carroll Carlyle, 98, of Weldon, passed away early Monday morning, February 21, 2022.

She was born August 23, 1923 in Halifax County, the daughter of Albert E. Carroll and wife, Etta Gregory Carroll, who both passed away when Alice was 6 and 9 years old.  

She was raised by Willis and Lula Gregory, who have also passed away.  

Alice had 5 brothers, Louis Carroll, John Carroll, Ovid Carroll, Lonnie Carroll and PA Carroll who also preceded her in death.  She was married to the late Jesse Julian Carlyle, who passed away December 8, 2001.  They were married on December 25, 1942 in Baltimore, MD.  They had 2 sons, Carroll Julian Carlyle, who passed away March 7, 2021 and Charles Raymond Carlyle, Sr., who passed away November 1, 2021.

Alice was a homemaker and mother for most of her adult life. She was a member of Good News Baptist Church.  

She enjoyed watching TV as well as working in her yard and with her flowers.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Diana Marie Carlyle; grandchildren, Charles R. Carlyle, Jr., Kimberly Carlyle and Brandy Hutcheson; great-grandchildren, Joey Carlyle, Maja Carlyle, Kenneth Alverez, Savannah Alverez, Kayla Ivey, Gus Matzke, Jr., Braylee Hutcheson and Troy Hutcheson, Jr.; nieces, Ann Carol Chockley, Linda Carroll, Betty Jo Carroll, Glenda Carroll Roberts, Marty Carroll McDonald, Ernestine Coates, Hazel Burnip; nephews, Don Carroll, Clyde Carroll, Keith Carroll and Lex Carroll; great-nieces, Elizabeth Buffaloe and Lori Surry; great-nephews, Tony Shearin, Ivan Carroll and Andrew Chockley.

The funeral service for Mrs. Alice Carlyle will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 23, 2022, from the graveside at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, with Pastor Jimmy King presiding.  The family will greet friends following the service.
