Sterling Warren Skinner, Sr., 93, passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2020.

He was born May 16, 1927, in Pitt County, the ninth child out of ten born to William Herring Skinner, Jr. and Huldah Stepps Skinner.

Sterling is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Shirley Butler Skinner, daughter, Rhonda Skinner Baker and son, Warren Skinner and wife Joanne, as well as four granddaughters and seven great grandchildren:  Kristie Trembulak and husband Jay with daughters Johanna and Laney: Stephanie Saylor and husband Drew with sons Cullens Cullen and Kyle and daughter Lily:  Lauren Cosgrave and husband Sean with daughters Nora and Claire:  Courtney Baker.  He also leaves many dear nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that have enriched his life.

Sterling was proud of being a WWII Veteran and serving in the U.S. Navy. After the war and marrying the love of his life Shirley, he worked in the Newport News Shipyard followed by working for the C&O Railroad for 32 years before retiring in 1987.

He had a long retirement affording him time to enjoy and share the lake house at Lake Gaston with family and friends.

For almost three decades, Sterling and Shirley took great pleasure in hosting large family summer reunions at the lake including barbecuing a pig.  Sterling was also known for teaching countless friends and family how to water ski with great enthusiasm. He was a loving husband and great Dad/Grandad.

Cherishing family, friends and lending a hand were central to Sterling's life.
