Hazel Lee Wood Wells, 89, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 in her home.  

Mrs. Wells was born on January 18, 1934, the daughter of the late Claudia Bell Newsome and Herman H. Wood.  

She was also preceded in death by her grandson Austin Vaughan, and her brothers Raymond Wood and Bubba Wood. 

Surviving include her husband Gaius David Wells, Sr, of the home; her daughters Teresa Wells Skinner (Kenneth) of Roanoke Rapids, Rebecca Wells Spurlin of Roanoke Rapids, and Donna Wells Thompson (Glenn) of Grifton; her sons Gaius David Wells II (Susan) of Littleton and Alvin “Bruce” Wells (Christina) of Halifax; her sisters Claudia Neal (Gene), Edna Council and Addie Simone, all of Roanoke Rapids; her brother Ronnie Wood (Sue) of Roanoke Rapids; her grandchildren Jennifer Skinner Stamm (Sid), Joanne Skinner Forbes (Brian), Kristin Skinner Donoughe (Chris),  Bradley Shearin (Holly), Jonathan Wells, Abigail Grace Wells, and Cora Gordan Wells, her great grandchildren Cody Stamm, Briann Forbes, Brooke Forbes, Braxton Forbes, Lucas Shearin, and Gracelyn Shearin, and her great great grandson Henry J. Nethery.  

A special thank you to the nurses and staff with Community Hospice for their care and dedication for our mother.

A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, in Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.
