Richard “Fats” Lee Tanner, 88, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at ECU Medical Center in Greenville.
Richard was born April 16, 1934, in Halifax County to the late William Tanner Maggie Carter Tanner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Molly M. Tanner; his sons, John David Tanner and Billy Tanner; his daughter, Bet Richardson; his son-in-law, Gary hooker.
Richard loved fishing, coffee and his pecan sandies in the morning and walking. He also loved being outside and working in his garden.

Richard is survived by his children, Joann Murty and her husband Bubba of Roanoke Rapids, Nan Parrish and her husband Ken of Raleigh, Pam Kidd, Bo Tanner and his wife Karen and Windy Hooker all of Roanoke Rapids; his brothers, William Tanner and his wife Mary of Salisbury and Mason Tanner and his wife Jennifer of Macon, GA; his sister, Joyce McDonald and her husband Mike of Roanoke Rapids; his grandchildren, Michael Tanner, Shannon Golden, Lacey Tanner, Paul Mills, Heather Ellis, Marissa Parrish, Cole Tanner, Noah Tanner, Kaitlyn Tanner, Brooke Tanner, Jasmine Tanner, Megan Yandle, Austin Hooker, William Roope and Melissa Hand; his great-grandchild, Stephen France.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 3, 2023, at Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. Tim Bowen officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home of his daughter, Windy Hooker.
