Thelma Jane Norwood, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, surrounded by her loving family.

Jane was born March 21, 1950 in Halifax County and raised by her loving mother Thelma Lucas Hawkins.  

Jane graduated from William R. Davie High School. She began her professional career at Halifax County Schools, working as a secretary at William R.Davie Middle School. She then moved into a career in the healthcare field, working in the office of Dr. Ganesh Bissram. From there, she moved on to Halifax Regional Medical Center, where she retired as billing supervisor.

Jane is survived by her husband Michael Norwood of the home, her children, Stephen Evans of Raleigh,NC, Laura Hutchinson and her husband Daniel of the Darlington community, Pamela Jones and her husband Freddy of Roanoke Rapids and Jason Norwood of Troy, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ericka, Xavier, Sydney, Sara, Allyssa (whom she helped raise), Kaitlyn and Chase, and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Win J. Browning of Savannah, GA, her special niece Beverly Schmidt and her husband Robert and other nieces and nephews. 

Jane's family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Gerardo Maradiaga for her care over the years, and also to the ICU doctors and nurses at UNC Chapel HIll Hospital.

 Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2023, in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.  

Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023, at the funeral home.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Victory Junction, 4500 Adam's Way, Randleman, NC  27317.
