The Roanoke Valley will be booming this week.  There are four celebrations with fireworks and 21 live music events from Tuesday through Saturday. Check out all of the details at www.AtTheMic.com.

Wednesday The 4th of July Celebrations will be lighting up the skies.

The Band of Oz is at the Northampton County Fireworks Spectacular located at the Cultural and Wellness Center in Jackson. The fun begins Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The Town of Halifax will be celebrating on the courthouse lawn with Rising Star Karaoke providing the opportunity of anyone to be a star for a song.  There will be many other activities to round out the night including the Fireworks at dark.

Hobgood has a 4th of July Celebration starting at 6pm on Wednesday with music, pie eating contest, Military Salute and Fireworks. Then Lake Gaston will be to place for the Fireworks on Saturday.

First For Freedom continues this week with performance Thursday through Saturday. 

This is Halifax County’s own Historical Outdoor Drama which marks the 37th season of the 2nd longest consecutive running outdoor drama in North Carolina.  This musical drama will be at 8pm at the 4H Rural Life Center on Hwy 903 between I-95 Exit 168 and the Town of Halifax.

Even if you have seen this drama before, it’s worthy of going again and relishing in the Spirit of Independence that started right here in Halifax County.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.FirstForFreedom.com and The Visitors Center in Premier Landing. Tickets can also be purchased to night of the show at the gate.

The First Saturday Open Mic returns to the Becker Village Mall this Saturday at 7pm.  This is the place to be to enjoy a diverse blend of music from musicians from across the area.  In a grassroots kind of way, this open mic can be a training ground for new musicians and a place to play for the experienced.  In either case the music is enjoyable and relaxing.  Musicians can begin signing up to play at 5pm with the music getting started at 7pm and going till about 10pm.

The Roanoke Rapids Theatre will be filled with laughter Saturday Night as David Mann aka Mr. Brown takes the stage.  From the play, movie and TV show Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Browns”, Mann is sure to have everyone rolling in the aisles.  Ron Johnson a ventriloquist and comedian will be bringing his talent to the stage as well.
