Dear RRHS JROTC Parents and Cadets,

As we approach the start of a new school year, I would like to offer some clarification regarding some changes and new initiatives that will take place on our campus.  

As you are aware, RRGSD intends to open Roanoke Rapids Early College in Fall, 2018. The RRGSD Board of Trustees and the Halifax County Board of Commissioners have formally approved this project and are supportive of its placement in our Armory.  This new school will provide students the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree and/or 2 years of college credit at no cost to parents. The campus will also benefit citizens in the Roanoke Valley as adult education classes will be offered after normal school hours. In order to offer an Early College setting that meets the requirements of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and to remain within our approved budget, the Armory must be utilized for this project.  

The JROTC program is a well-established and successful program at RRHS. We have intentions of continuing this success.  Below are some important facts regarding JROTC for the upcoming school year.

• Both JROTC instructional classrooms will be moved out of the Armory in order to allow the building to be outfitted for the Roanoke Rapids Early College.

• Two large classrooms in the Talley Building at RRHS will now house the JROTC instructional classrooms.  These rooms will have their own entrances and exits as well as large amounts of storage for both instructors. The Talley Building is situated beside the Armory with direct walking access to the Armory gym.

• All current storage in the Armory for JROTC will remain in the Armory. This will allow for quick and convenient access for Cadets while preparing for drill practice. Restrooms are also available in both the Talley Building and the Armory for Cadets to use.

• Priority of use for the Armory gym will still be given to the JROTC program.  Also, the Armory gym will still be available for all other athletic activities as it has been in the past.

• In summary, the only change to the JROTC program will be moving the classroom setting from the Armory to the Talley Building.  All other aspects will remain the same.
