Randall Sears, 75, was charged following an investigation which was initially started in 2013 by Wake County Child Protective Services, Enfield police Detective Willie Murphy Jr. said this afternoon.
After that investigation leads went cold and the case was placed in an inactive status, Chief Tyree Davis said in a statement.
This past December Murphy received new information on the case and renewed its investigation.
The recent investigation led to arrest warrants on Sears for first-degree rape, first-degree sex offense with a child and incest with a child under the age of 13.
Murphy declined comment on the family relationship between the man and the child as well as the gender of the child.
Detective Graham Page arrested Sears, who was taken before a magistrate and assigned a $750,000 bond and February 7 court date.
Murphy said the case is ongoing. He declined comment on why Wake County received the initial complaint on the matter, which reportedly occurred in the summer of 2013.
