A Roanoke Rapids man surrendered to the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday after learning he was indicted on heroin trafficking charges stemming from a September investigation by the Down East Drug Task Force.

Lieutenant Mike Sledge said in a statement Maalik Raekwon Robinson, 21, faces charges of trafficking by delivery of heroin; trafficking by possession of heroin; possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin; sale of heroin and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place to keep a controlled substance.

Sledge said in the statement Robinson is one of several arrests pending for the sale of heroin in Northampton, Hertford and Bertie counties.

Robinson received a $30,000 bond and January 29 court date.

Robinson was arrested in Halifax County last March on cocaine and heroin counts by the City County Drug task Force.

It is not clear the disposition of that case.

“I commend Agent Sledge and other members of the Down East Drug Task Force and the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office for their hard work in combating illegal narcotics in Northampton County,” Sheriff Jack Smith said in the statement. “My office will continue to work with other counties and local police departments. This is a prime example of when all law enforcement agencies work as one.”
