Tenth Street is back open after Roanoke Rapids firefighters went in and shut off the emergency shut off system to a propane tank at Builders FirstSource.

Battalion Chief Richard Cook said there was a ruptured fill hose attached to the tank.

Ferrellgas will still have to make repairs to the tank, Cook said.

Firefighters and other emergency responders were on scene for around two-and-a-half hours.

Cook said the fire department was appreciative of response from public works, the police department, Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad, state Department of Transportation, Halifax County EMS and Halifax Emergency Management as well as the gas company.
