A man is believed to have made a purchase and later hand a clerk a note he was robbing them at the Pilot Travel Center Monday morning.

Captain Chuck Hasty of the Northampton County Sheriff''s said the suspect is believed to be a white male who may have fled the scene on a semi with no trailer attached.

The robbery occurred around 12:30 a.m. at the truck stop and convenience store at the Interstate 95 and Highway 48 intersection.

Deputy Chris Collier responded and was told the clerk was handed a note saying “this was a robbery” and to hand money over.

The clerk complied and the man, who was wearing a dark T-shirt and jeans, fled the store and was last seen running towards the southbound ramp of the interstate. He was approximately 6-feet tall and 250 pounds.

The man may have left on semi with no trailer headed south on the interstate.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-534-2611.
