County elections board sets Monday meeting

The Halifax County Board of Elections will hold a meeting Monday at noon in Halifax.

A Roanoke Rapids man was charged today on several child pornography counts.

A Garysburg man was reportedly found in possession of 62 crack rocks and three bindles of heroin after he attempted to flee a checking station this morning.

State approves county elections board

The North Carolina State Board of Elections approved the appointments of two Democrats and two Republicans to make up the Halifax County Board of Elections.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Thursday afternoon shooting in which two people were injured.

Irby, Powell indicted in Johnson murder

Dillon Tyler Irby and James Powell were indicted Monday in the January murder of Travis Johnson and the attempted murder of another victim, according to true bills returned by a grand jury.

As defendants charged in the murders of four friends playing cards last summer in the Glenview community of the Enfield area are scheduled to make their first Halifax County Superior Court appearances next month, one of them has twice demanded his right to a speedy trial.

4-H summer camps set

With school quickly approaching the last few months, many youth will be looking for activities to occupy their time this summer.  

A Halifax County Grand Jury today returned true bills of indictment against three men charged in the murders of four elderly people in the Glenview community last summer.
