A $5,000 reward has been established through the governor’s office in the fatal Christmas Eve beating last year of an 85-year-old man in Severn.

As the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a series of fights Monday at the county high school in Gaston, Sheriff Jack Smith confirmed this afternoon approximately 40 students were involved.

Bomb threats appear tied to Instagram account

Bomb threats made to two Northampton County schools Tuesday appear to be tied to an Instagram account with the username of freewaldofreetim, posts associated with the matter and confirmation from the sheriff’s office show.

Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith said he believes his “officers acted properly” when they fatally shot a 59-year-old man while responding to a domestic assault call in Pleasant Hill Friday night.
