Key dates set in 12 county murder cases

The District Attorney’s office and defense attorneys today agreed on dates for trials and administrative sessions for 12 murders which remain on Halifax County court dockets.

District court judges who are currently presiding in the soon-to-be merged judicial districts of 6A and 6B are working together along with other officials to address concerns that might arise when the union becomes official in January.

Pelfrey encourages study of statistics

Melissa D. Pelfrey, candidate for District Attorney for the new District 6 (comprised of Bertie, Halifax, Hertford, and Northampton Counties), wants residents of those counties to review the annual statistics compiled by the state Administrative Office of the Courts when considering their choice of the candidates for District Attorney.

Statement gives insight into judicial merger

State Senator Angela Bryant explained in a news release Friday the consolidation of the two local judicial and prosecutorial districts was done through an attachment to the state budget bill that also sought to create a new district in Stanley County.
