Council OKs skatepark rules ahead of opening

As the city prepares to open the skateboard and BMX park Saturday, council this evening approved an ordinance amendment requiring its users to wear helmets, knee and elbow pads.

A developer who unsuccessfully sought a conditional use permit for an apartment complex in the Villages at Cross Creek subdivision will go before the Roanoke Rapids Planning Board later this month to pitch a proposal for single-family dwellings on the property.

The Roanoke Rapids Skate Park will open at 10 a.m. on March 5, parks and recreation Director John Simeon reported to city council this evening.

After two continuations of a public hearing, one in which the matter was nearly turned down for good, Roanoke Rapids City Council this evening approved the rezoning of the former Carolina Crossroads outdoor concert site.

Crossroads vote a chance for a Mulligan

If there had to be a decision made on the rezoning of the former Carolina Crossroads concert site Tuesday night then the one made to continue the hearing on the matter made more sense than just flat out rejecting the proposal as was the original direction four members of city council were headed.
