Council rejects pet pig revisions

Stacey Harrell said she will continue to petition city council to modify an ordinance which forbids swine to be kept as pets after the panel turned down proposed revisions this evening.

City council will begin studying a proposed ordinance which would allow the keeping of potbellied pigs as pets and expects to fully discuss the matter at its November 17 meeting.

City council candidates address issues at forum

A sparse audience Monday evening listened as the two candidates in the only contested Roanoke Rapids City Council race shared their views on issues.

The Halifax County Chapter of the NAACP has collected 75 signatures and its president expects to collect a total of 250 from those living inside the Roanoke Rapids city limits whose children cannot attend school in the city's district because of the current configuration of its boundary lines.
