Woman charged in ID theft case

A Garysburg woman has been charged for allegedly stealing financial information from her family to obtain two loans, according to the Weldon Police Department.

Lt. James Avens said April Harris, 27, was charged yesterday with two counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

He said she used family members’ financial information to obtain two small loans.

She was jailed on $5,000 bond and has a Sept. 9 court date

Man assaulted with pipe

A man was assaulted last night with a pipe, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Chief Jeff Hinton said officers received an assault call around 8 p.m. at 215 Taylor St.

The victim, Patrick Terry, told police Antonio Baker struck him with a pipe. 

Terry was treated and released from Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Baker was arrested and charged with assault with deadly weapon and was jailed under $1,000 bond. His court date is Sept. 18.
