A wanted fugitive with pending charges in Halifax and Wake counties was located at a residence in the 3000 block of Sam Powell Dairy Road Sunday morning.

Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the residence around 9 a.m. to locate 34-year-old Kehaad C. Hawkins. Hawkins did not respond to a call-out, in which surrender commands are given through a PA system to exit the house. The warrant says that Hawkins refused to step outside, which led to a standoff. Sergeant A.C. Wood then applied for a search warrant.

Hawkins was located inside the residence and taken into custody with assistance from the HCSO Special Response Team.

He had outstanding Halifax County warrants for assault on a female, communicating threats, assault by pointing a gun, misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, two counts of resisting a public officer, and felony larceny of a motor vehicle. The domestic violence warrants state that in 2025, he allegedly punched the victim in the head, grabbed her by the neck, and pointed a gun at her. He also allegedly fired shots, forcing the victim back inside the residence.

In Wake County, Hawkins faces charges for reckless driving to endanger, driving while license revoked, driving while impaired, failure to reduce speed, exceeding safe speed, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle to store a controlled substance, felony possession of Schedule VI, misdemeanor possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor simple possession of Schedule IV.

He remains in the Halifax County Detention Center without the opportunity for bond on the domestic charges, and he has a $70,000 secured bond and a $2,000 secured hold from Wake County. He has district court dates in Wake County on Tuesday and June 4, and in Halifax County on May 27 and June 2.
