An investigation into drug complaints Friday led to three arrests and the seizure of felony amounts of marijuana at a local motel.

Captain Andy Jackson said Roanoke Rapids Police Officer Roy Ball went to room 214 of the Carolina Inn on Jackson Street shortly before 4 p.m. to investigate a tip on narcotics trafficking.

When he and Officer Gerald Morris and Sergeant Richard White arrived, one of the people who was later arrested went to the bathroom and the officers heard a window go up.

Investigating officers, also assisted by Lieutenant Ozzie Morgan, located the marijuana allegedly thrown from the window. They also located paraphernalia such as digital scales and baggies.

They seized 34 grams of marijuana in two baggies and two nickel bags.

Charged were Devin Williams, 20, Elizabeth Sledge, 51, and Charles Thomas, 30.

Sledge and Thomas listed addresses of 214 Carolina Inn while Williams listed his address as the 1004 Vance Street.

The relationship between Sledge and Thomas was not clear, nor was it clear how long drug activities were allegedly ongoing in the room.

Williams and Thomas face charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule VI, felony possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were jailed on $5,000 secured bond and have September 14 court dates.

Sledge faces charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance. She was jailed on $6,000 bond and has the same court date as Williams and Thomas.
