A Roanoke Rapids area man was charged Friday with possession of drugs and firearms following a raid by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office on London Church Road.
Lieutenant T.S. Hall said the raid was based on officer investigation and citizen complaints during the course of the investigation.
Hall said 290 grams of marijuana was seized, some of it packaged for sale. A 5-foot plant taken from outside was also seized during the raid, in which Hall and narcotics agents J.R. Somogyi and A.M. Harris participated. Sergeant R. Keeton and deputies B.K. Knight, O. Wiltsie and J.T. Keeter and his dog Broady also participated.
Three hits of crack cocaine were seized as well as a pistol and a 12-gage shotgun with a pistol grip.
Derrick Mullen, 37, was arrested and charged with maintaining a dwelling to store a controlled substance, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture marijuana and possession of a firearm by a felon. The paraphernalia consisted of scales and plastic bags.
Mullen was placed in the Halifax County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond and has an October 5 court date pending.
