Weldon Fire Chief Rusty Bolt will have to wait until Tuesday to discuss interim and long term plans on Fire Station 1 where the roof was damaged during Hurricane Irene Saturday.
An emergency meeting called today was recessed until Tuesday at 2 p.m. because two commissioners were absent and the interim finance officer was not there.
When Mayor Julia Meacham announced the meeting would be recessed, Bolt said, “I think y'all need to hear me out.”
Meacham said, however, “I feel like we need to go that route,” and recess the meeting.
Asked by rrspin.com if the town had any immediate backup plans on what to do about Fire Station 1, Meacham said, “There's a lot of speculation. Our finance administrator and the full board have not had the information.”
She said she believed they should be involved in decisions that involve the signing of leases. “There's too many variables. Tuesday will be the earliest time for us to meet.”
Bolt had no comment following the recess. He has said the fire department has to do something to provide coverage on both sides of town because of heavy train traffic and to have a place to store the Station 1 trucks before fall and winter so pipes won't freeze and diesel fuel won't gel.
The trucks are currently being stored outside Station 2.
The roof to Station 1 was damaged when the roof from the Evangelistic Church of Deliverance roof smashed into it during the storm.
