In an election which saw only 2,188 ballots cast, there were still notable results, according to unofficial results.

Board of election officials could not be immediately reached for clarification on the town of Halifax race, where in the mayor's race, 20 write-in ballots were cast, to the 14 received by incumbent Mayor Gerald Wright. There was no answer this evening when rrspin.com attempted to contact Wright.

In the town board race in Halifax, where voters were to vote for five town board members, 59 of the votes cast were write-ins while Cliff Bass received 33 and John L. White received 31.

 

Enfield

Tracey Gardner Joyner received 51.56 percent of the votes, beating Lenne Ward in the at-large seat.

In the District A race, incumbent Bud Whitaker collected 70.51 percent of the votes over Angela W. Harper.

In the District B race, unopposed candidate Kent Holmes collected 92.81 percent of the votes to 12 write-ins.

 

Hobgood

In the mayor's race, Dannie A. Flanary collected 67.95 percent of the votes over Levon Harris.

In the town commissioner's race, where three seats were available, Stella Daugherty collected 23.09 percent of the votes; Julian W. Padgette 23.56 percent of the votes and write-ins accounted for 15.94 percent of the votes.

 

Littleton

In Littleton, where three seats were open, Terry Newsom collected 28.72 percent of the votes; Clara Delores Debnam collected 24.10 percent and Nada Diana Bobbitt 23.08 percent.

 

Scotland Neck

In the mayor's race, challenger Leonard Bunting defeated incumbent James Mills Sr. Bunting collected 59.41 percent of the votes while Mills collected 40.59 percent.

In the town commissioner race, where three seats were available, James Gunnells and Charlie Shields collected 20.53 percent of the votes while Raymond Watson earned 19.55 percent.

 

Weldon

Incumbent Walter Clark Jr. and Susan G. Smith, running for the seat Earl Smith is vacating, earned town board seats, each collecting 46.95 percent of the votes.

 

Roanoke Rapids Graded School District

In a race with three seats open, Linda A. Brewer collected 34.12 percent of the votes; Jane W. Deese 29.27 percent of the votes and Dorothy Green collected 18.86 percent.

 

Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District

All three incumbents — James Bailey, Paul Heaton Jr. and Gene St. Clair — were returned to office.
