Scotland Neck police have identified the body of a man found Sunday as Benjamin Parker of Roanoke Street.

While investigation continues, Chief Joe Williams said it is believed Parker, 27, died of a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Parker had a lengthy past criminal record and also faced recent charges from the police department and Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Lieutenant S. Hall of the sheriff's office said this morning narcotics agents last Wednesday served a search warrant at Parker's residence and seized crack, marijuana and firearms.

He was arrested but posted bond later.

Hall said Parker did not show signs he was depressed. “He shared concern about the charges but no more than anyone else facing the same charges.”
