A Roanoke Rapids area man turned himself in Wednesday night and was jailed on $200,000 bond for an armed robbery in the 200 block of Jackson Street.

Rashawn Belfield, of Flax Lane, in the Lincoln Heights community, faces charges of first degree burglary, second degree kidnapping, assault by pointing a gun, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The charges stem from an investigation by Officer David Brown of the police department, who was dispatched to the victim's house shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Brown, according to Captain Andy Jackson, learned Belfield, 19, allegedly came in the house after one of the victim heard a knocking noise at the bedroom window.

The female victim went to the backdoor to investigate and Belfield allegedly forced his way in, pointing a gun at her head and forced her to a room where a male victim was and demanded his wallet.

The man handed over the wallet, which contained $65, and Belfield left, turning himself in the next evening.

Belfield, who knew the victims, has a January 11 court date.
