A Roanoke Rapids man is scheduled for sentencing in federal court next month on a drug count.

According to federal court records, Johnell McRae Alston, 33, is scheduled for sentencing in Raleigh February 6.

Alston is currently in federal custody following a writ issued for him in July while he served time at the Hyde County Correctional Institution, federal records show.

A pre-sentence investigative report was issued Thursday but is not included in the court record.

Alston was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly distributing 50 or more grams of crack cocaine on or about February 4. This was allegedly done after being convicted in the state courts of similar crimes, the indictment says.

Alston has a lengthy past criminal record.
