An ongoing feud Saturday morning in Enfield left a man shot in both legs and another behind bars.

Lieutenant J.D. Powell of the Enfield Police Department said around 2:30 a.m. he heard multiple gunshots in the area of K’s Lounge on South McDaniel Street.

Powell, along with officers A. Belgreat and T. Richardson, responded and observed a large crowd. Powell heard additional shots fired and saw a person later identified as Jeffrey Clark Jr. running from the area.

An initial effort to apprehend the man failed.

Subsequent investigation revealed a man was shot, the result of an argument that began in the lounge parking lot and continued into the street where the victim was shot in the upper area of both legs.

The victim was taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids and then transported to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville where he was treated and released.

The Enfield officers, with assistance from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the state Highway Patrol and Nash and Edgecombe sheriff’s deputies, began a search for Clark.

Clark was found at a house on Tucker Street and arrested without incident, charged with assault with a deadly with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Powell said Clark has a lengthy criminal record involving gun charges as well as drugs and assault on a female.

Clark and the victim are well acquainted, Powell said.

Clark was jailed on $50,000 secure bond and has an April 17 court date.
