A Scotland Neck man will spend the next 10 ½ to 14 years in prison after a Halifax County jury found him guilty on a counts associated with a shooting at a party last year.

The jury found Daquan Pittman guilty of assault with a deadly with intent to kill inflicting serious injury on Clarence Whitaker and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury on Antonio Holiday. The jury also found him guilty of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Halifax County District Attorney Melissa Pelfrey said the trial began Tuesday and ended this afternoon with the guilty verdict.

“I’m glad he’s off the streets and glad the victims came forward and the let the court system handle justice instead of it being handled in the street,” Pelfrey said.

Pittman was sentenced as close to the maximum range for the charges as possible, Pelfrey said.
