A man already charged in three residential break-ins is now charged with allegedly stealing a debit card from a stolen vehicle and buying merchandise with it.
Detective R. Somogyi of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said the vehicle was stolen in the Warrenton area on March 7 and the victim’s card was in the vehicle at the time.
The card was used in the Roanoke Rapids area at several businesses and approximately $200 worth of items were bought on the card.
Investigation by Somogyi led to the arrest of 55-year-old Joseph Lee Price of Hollister on charges of identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense.
He was jailed on $6,000 bond and has a July 25 court date.
Somogyi said this case is unrelated to another one in which Price and another man were charged in the Hollister area break-ins. Additional arrests are pending.
