While repairs have been made to last week’s damage at River Falls Park, the Weldon Police Department continues to look for those responsible.
Chief Mark Macon said this morning the town is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the crime, which occurred sometime between 5:45 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
Mayor Julia Meacham said the damage was repaired the same day and will not affect plans for Saturday’s Independence Day celebration, which kicks off at 5 p.m. at the park. “Everything is fine,” she said. “It’s going to be a nice evening. I think everyone will enjoy themselves.”
Meacham said the crime occurred just as the town completed planning for surveillance cameras, which are expected to be installed at the park next week.
Anyone with information on the crime is encouraged to call the police department at 252-536-3136 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
