This weekend’s David Mann aka Mr. Brown show at the Roanoke Rapids Theatre will give those attending a chance to give back.

Anyone who brings in three canned goods will get $5 off the ticket price on a cash purchase.Michelle Moody, one of the people responsible for bringing the 7 p.m. show to the theater Saturday, said the canned goods will be donated to a local organization. “We wanted to bring some family oriented entertainment to the area since the theater has been in the situation it is to generate revenue in the Roanoke Valley.

”The show is being brought to the theater by Fellowship of Friends Productions/JVM Outreach and will feature Mann, who has worked for Tyler Perry and starred in the TBS sitcom Meet the Browns.

Mann will be accompanied by his band, The Brownettes. The show will feature singing and comedy. Mann also interacts with the audience, Moody said. “After the show he will have an opportunity to meet and greet with the public.“

The show will also showcase ventriloquist Willie Brown and his comedic styling.

The show sold out at The Centre on the campus of Halifax Community College two years ago, Moody said.Moody said JVM Outreach is a ministry based at Calvary Baptist Church in Ahoskie. “So many people are in need. We’re trying to develop programs to help the surrounding area.”
