From a band in its first year to a physically challenged Internet DJ, the Roanoke Valley will be well represented at the 2012 Carolina Beach Music Awards in November.
The people nominated in several different categories are those who are keeping the Beach Music tradition alive.
One of the nominees, Steve Owens and Summertime, was nominated for eight different categories while Andy Lucy, of the Emporia AM station WEVA, was nominated for AM DJ of the Year and his station nominated for AM Station of the Year.

Keith Houston, of KHP Music, was nominated for Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year for his work on the CD.
The band has been together for 13 months. “It’s been a great year for the band,” Owens said in a prepared statement. “Our self-titled CD was released in April of this year and we already have two number one songs on the Beach Music Charts with other singles still to be released.”
The eight-piece band, which includes a three-horn section, is a source of pride. “I have the greatest musicians I could have asked for on stage with me at each performance,” he said. “They have all worked hard and it shows in our success.”
Owens said the nominations were staggering. “I was totally shocked to get the number of nominations we received. I’m honored just to be nominated and it shows the support and confidence that the fans and peers in the industry have given us.”
