A Gumberry man has been charged with allegedly stealing a van belonging to DrugCo.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy R.M. Brown responded to a residence on Roper Springs Road in the Littleton area.

The victim, who works for DrugCo and was allowed to take the van with him, reported to the deputy Wednesday the vehicle was stolen.

Halifax County deputies were aided in the investigation by the state Highway Patrol, which investigated a crash involving the van in Nash County.

They learned Marc Winfield Brenner, 20, allegedly stole the van and found him near the crash scene with injuries.

Deputy Brown charged Brenner with larceny of a motor vehicle and the Highway Patrol charged him with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.

He was jailed on $3,500 bond and has a November 17 court date.

Tripp said it was possible the keys were left in the vehicle.
