Roanoke Rapids police are investigating the theft of Romney/Ryan yard signs, which were reported stolen on October 5.

Major Tommy Hathaway said 75 signs were stolen across the city and replaced with Obama and G.K. Butterfield campaign signs.

“On the face of what was taken and what they were replaced with, we believe this was political in nature,” Hathaway said.

The signs are valued at $20 each and the chairman of the Halifax County Republican Party reported the crime.

The theft of the signs is larceny, Hathaway said, and thus far police have no leads but continue to investigate.
