A woman was pistol-whipped early Thursday morning and the man allegedly responsible is in jail on $75,000 bond.
Captain James Avens of the Weldon Police Department said shortly before 2:15 a.m. Sergeant E.T. Smith and Officer I. Jacobs received a call from Halifax County dispatchers to respond to the railroad tracks near Country Club Road where a woman was bleeding from her head.

The woman told the officers that a man she identified as James Williams Jr. pistol-whipped her and robbed her of $31.
Williams, 43, of Weldon, was located shortly after at a garage on Elm Street and arrested.
He was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and resist, delay and obstruct.
The victim was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Avens said it is not clear, beyond robbery, why the woman was beaten.
