Roanoke Rapids and Weldon police this evening arrested a man following a short chase that started from an anonymous tip he was allegedly carrying drugs.
Following the chase, which started at the Interstate BP in Roanoke Rapids and ended at a car wash in Weldon, officers seized a quarter ounce of crack, 150 Loritab pills and a quarter ounce of marijuana.
Major Tommy Hathaway of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said the call came in around 6 p.m. that a man driving a white Mercedes was allegedly carrying controlled substances.
Officers found the vehicle at the Interstate BP on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway. When they approached him he took off and a short chase ensued.

The man, Alvin Hamlin, of West Third Street, Weldon, was apprehended without incident.
He faces charges of elude arrest and possession with intent to sell and deliver, cocaine, marijuana and schedule II.
No bond information was immediately available this evening.
